Your body is a complex set of systems that strive for balance. When your body is in balance you feel good and are healthy. Each system must work in harmony for you to be at your optimum health. When your body is out of balance you not only feel bad, but you are more susceptible to illness and disease. One of the biggest benefits of a healthy lifestyle is maintaining this balance and following good habits.


What is a Healthy Lifestyle?

A healthy lifestyle is all about balance. Eating the right foods, getting plenty of exercise and having a positive attitude are the cornerstones of a healthy lifestyle. Include plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits, low fat protein sources, and whole wheat bread and pasta, and drink at least 8 glasses of water to have a healthy diet.

The American Heart Association recommends you get 30 minutes of exercise at least three times a week. Of course you should not smoke, take illegal drugs or abuse alcohol. Find enjoyable hobbies and try to look on the positive side of life. You will get down in the dumps once in a while, but try not to stay there. All of these things will add up to a healthy lifestyle and you will reap the benefits.

Healthy Mind/Healthy Body
You are more than just a collection of bodily systems. Your personality and mind play an important part of your overall health. Studies by leading universities have found a correlation between a positive attitude and your overall heal and how fast you heal from injury and disease. Another interesting finding is that people who are engaged in a spiritual life heal faster and can handle stress better than non-spiritual people.

Anyone can benefit from meditation. Meditation helps you to find your center and quiet your mind. A positive attitude is also very beneficial to your health. It can boost your immune system and protect you from catching every bug that comes along. The American Heart Association recommends regular exercise to boost your mental abilities. The reasons for this include an increased blood flow to the brain and release of the “feel good” hormones from exercise.

Keep Your Blood Flowing
Your circulatory system will benefit from a healthy lifestyle in many ways. When you eat right and get exercise your oxygen levels increase. This gives your body’s cells the energy they need to perform at their peak level. A healthy lifestyle prevents heart disease by keeping your arteries and blood vessels strong and elastic. Regular exercise strengthens your heart and lungs keeping your body fit.

A healthy diet low in fat and sugar can prevent the build up of plaque in your blood vessels and reduce your risk for heart attacks and strokes. It also keeps your cholesterol and triglyceride levels normal, another important preventative measure to prevent heart disease.

Strengthen Your Bones
Strong bones support your body and prevent osteoporosis. Your bones are the framework of your body and keeping them strong is important. When you lead a healthy lifestyle a good diet and exercise will strengthen your bones.

Getting enough calcium and minerals is important to build and maintain your bones. The Mayo Clinic reports that regular exercise not only builds muscle, but strengthens bones.

Breathe Easier
People who do not smoke have a much lower incidence of asthma and respiratory conditions. Men have a 23 times greater risk for lung cancer and women have a 13 times greater risk if they smoke than non-smokers. Smoking increases your risk for heart disease by 200 to 400 percent. Not smoking is just part of a health lifestyle, check some reasons to quit smoking.

Regular exercise increases your lung capacity and strengthens your lungs. It keeps your airways clear and helps prevent respiratory issues. When your lungs work better you bring in more oxygen which increases your overall health throughout your entire body.

Better Digestion
A diet high in fiber, low in fat and low in sugar helps your digestive system work well. An adequate amount of water also helps waste travel through your digestive system. Exercise increases the action of your digestive system because much of the action of your intestines depends upon the action of the surrounding muscles. When you exercise regularly your body burns the calories you consumes and gets rid of waste more efficiently.

It’s Never Too Late
It’s never too late to start a healthy lifestyle. It is not hard to develop healthy habits. It just takes commitment and education. Research your options to start living a healthy lifestyle and develop a plan to get your body in its peak condition. You will feel better, look better and have a better quality of life.

Scientists from Swansea University have confirmed that a happy face is considered 'highly desirable'.


The reason? It's all down to what your expression suggests about your underlying health...

'A healthy looking face brings huge benefits,' explains Alex Jones from the University's College of Human and Health Sciences. 'Healthy looking people are more attractive; we're more likely to vote for healthy-looking politicians, and a healthy appearance is preferred in faces across the globe.'

Explaining that faces are deemed more attractive when the person looks happy, Jones adds: 'We have found strong links between looking healthy and how happy your neutral expression is.'

After first working out how 'happy' 15 faces looked based on expression alone – by measuring factors, including how upturned the corners of the mouth were – the team confirmed that looking happy was just as influential as your BMI, your age and whether you're wearing makeup or not when it came to determining how appealing you look to others.

Jones and his team then checked whether the faces were deemed even more appealing when they were smiling – and, lo and behold, they were...

'We discovered that faces look healthier when they are smiling, compared to a neutral expression, and that it doesn't matter whether the faces are male or female,' he explains.

And the older you are, the bigger the effect...

'We also found that this effect increased with the age of the face: while younger adults look healthier when they smile, older adults look much healthier... Scientific proof that a smile really is the best accessory.'

As for why it's more attractive to look happy and therefore healthy, Jones concludes: 'There is a simple message here: looking good costs nothing, and need not be dangerous. All it takes is a smile to look healthier, and the more you do it, the healthier you'll likely be.'

L'Oreal Paradise Extatic Mascara Review

I hope you are all doing well and are having a great start to the weekend. I thought today we would talk about the brand new L'Oreal Paradise Extatic Mascara, along with the full Paradise Extatic range, this mascara has been the talk of the beauty community at the moment and with good reason. I purchased this little gem at Heathrow airport a few weeks ago and I couldn't wait to share my thoughts with you all.

Firstly, let's talk about the packaging. I know they say to never judge a book by it's cover but I'm a sucker when it comes to pretty packaging. You all know that I am obsessed with anything rose gold so it was only a matter of time before I added this mascara to my makeup collection. The applicator wand itself has been shaped into an hourglass which is definitely one of my favourite shapes when it comes to mascara application. It is packed with super soft bristles which make application a dream because it clings on to every single lash in it's proximity and adds a silky smooth formula which is enriched with lash-loving castor oil. You can literally take your lashes to paradise with intense volume and spectacular length.

When I used the mascara for the first time I was so impressed and to this day I am still incredibly impressed. The first coat gave my lashes fabulous length and volume with no clumps. I waited for it to dry before adding another layer and my lashes still felt feather-soft and lightweight without any flaking. It's very buildable if you like more than one layer like I do.

When it comes to drugstore mascara I have pretty much tried them all but a brand that I always go back to it L'Oreal. I am a huge fan of their Miss Baby Roll, False Lash Sculpt, Volume Millions and more. When I first set my eyes on this mascara it instantly reminded me a teeny tiny bit of the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara (the wand design and shape of the component) but I mean these things are bound to happen in the beauty community. We are only human and there is only so many ways you can design mascara packaging. Plus, the price points are very different which is a bonus - yay for L'Oreal coming through with a fabulous mascara at £9.99. Overall, I have been so impressed with this mascara and it is one I will definitely consider repurchasing.

How to Find the Perfect Makeup Shade

Finding the perfect makeup shade is not as difficult as we make it to be. Maybe it is the abundance of products on the market that dull and confuse the issue.

Here are a few tips on how avoid the clutter and find the perfect shade for you…

Why Makeup?
Why do you want to apply makeup? To cover blemishes, spots, wrinkles and to even out the skin tone, is the answer most women give. It is important for you to know that no one makeup will do all this and look natural. If you have red spots you are trying to hide, use a concealer (green) before applying makeup. This way the red will not be noticeable, and the layer of makeup can be thinner and more natural looking.
The same way, no makeup can cover all the wrinkles. Use products like fillers, to fill in deep creases before applying makeup.

Know Your Skin Type

There are four possible skin types: normal, oily, dry or a combination of the last two. To figure out once and for all what is your skin type do a simple test: After removing all the previous makeup with an oil-free product, rinse your face well with warm water. Pat dry and do not apply any products. After about an hour touch your face. Is it dry? Is it oily to the touch? If the skin feels dry in some areas and oily in others – you have a combination skin.

What Kind of Makeup?

What kind of makeup depends on your skin type. Use the foundation to supplement your skin. If your skin is oily, you should look at what a powder can do for you. Mineral based makeup can help fight oily skin as well. Liquids and creams will add moisture to the skin, and should be used by those who have dry or very dry skin. If you have a combination skin, you might find that using more than one makeup will work the best for you. Those with normal skin can use any product they are comfortable with.
